Middelburg Holy Spirit 01

A bit of history

The Patronal Feast: Sunday – 50 days after the Resurrection

About the Patron of the parish

The Third Person of the Blessed Trinity is the result of the love that exists between Father and Son. On the first Pentecost He was publicly revealed to all by glorifying Christ and establishing a new era in the Church, that of the Spirit. The Liturgy on that day celebrates the pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Church. Of the three Divine Persons, He is the One Who gives life to the Church.

His name appears in all Trinitarian formulas. His role as Paraclete or Advocate is made obvious in the Epiclesis in the Mass. In the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders, the Holy Spirit is solemnly invoked.
