The Nativity of St. John, the Baptist – 2018

“he will be great in the sight of the Lord”

How proud would parents feel hearing such words about their own child? I think all parents want, or even dream about a greatness of their children. They look for a way to make them to be great. Often, in their own image, according to their own unrealized dreams, not taking into any consideration their children’s own will and passion.

The angel said to Zechariah that the child “will be great” but not in the eyes of people, not even of its parents, but in “the sight of the Lord”. This is the best greatness because sooner or later people too, will recognize this kind of greatness which will not fade away.

Planning our own future, we do forget – worse if we do not take into consideration – to consult the Lord. He can do so much for us if we ask Him and pay attention to His inspiration. Alike to St. John, the Baptist, He supports us with His Holy Spirit so that we too may become great people.

Whatever it may be that we feel doing in our life, let us remember to speak about it to the Lord, and to listen to His inspiration because He, THE LORD, wants each one of us to be the sign of His greatness in this world.

Just, trust the Lord.
