The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – 2018

“Take it, this is my body”

In today’s Solemnity we celebrate the immeasurable generosity of God. We are given the Body and Blood of His Son, so that we may not live in a shortage of anything. This is done for us so that we may have everything: Jesus who stays and is with us forever.

The Eucharist is a sign of God’s love towards us and may be understood only by those who love. Such a memorial, such a gesture of love could come only from God who loves each and every human being with endless love.

Those who love each other, when they depart, they want to leave a souvenir that will remind them of the other, that will remind them of the love they have for each other. If we had a gift of being in two places at the same time – bilocation – we would enjoy that very much. However, we do not have it, therefore we give each other something that reminds us about our love.

Jesus loving His disciples to the point of His own death, leaves not a just some souvenir; He leaves His Body and Blood – meaning – Himself, hidden in the form of the consecrated Bread and Wine.

This is beyond our comprehension. That is true. Therefore it is so great and necessary for us to contemplate and reflect deeply on this “mystery” of our faith. When we do grasp the meaning of this God’s gift, we will be filled with a true and endless happiness.
