The Pentecost Sunday – 2018

“Receive the Holy Spirit”

The Holy Spirit – the Third Person of the Holy Trinity – is the promise of Jesus to his disciples. He has a great task to lead, to teach, to explain and to sanctify the community which gathers in the name of Jesus.

All these above will not happen at once and only because those gathered are disciples of Jesus.

First, the disciples shall await Him. This “awaiting” shall not be a passive one. Those who wish to receive the Holy Spirit shall pray, that means, their hearts and minds shall be united with and concentrated on God. A prayer isn’t only “asking”; a prayer is “waiting”, is “being ready” to receive, to accept.

Second, this acceptance is an act of our free will. This is my doing, it is not God’s imposing something on me. Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit, but He does not say that we have to accept the gift. So then, to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit my heart shall be filled with thankfulness and be open to His working.

Those who are ready to receive the gift of Jesus are attentive to His gentle touch. His working is like a whisper that is not heard in the noise; it is like a gentle breeze that is not recognized in a busy day.

Let us be open to His inspirations that come to us – mostly – unexpected. He will give us all that we need to fulfill everything that we are called to do.

“Receive the Holy Spirit”.
