 6th Sunday OT – 2018

“If you wish, you can make me clean”

Reading this part of st. Mark’s Gospel we have a strong wish that also our requests to God would be answered in a such speed – immediately. It seems – at least at times – that the prayer is a tricky part of our relation with God. To some, He answers immediately, to others it take a lot of time. Why? Does God love others more than i.e.: us?

To understand this better, try to put yourselves in the position of this man. He has leprosy – an incurable disease that affects the skin, nerves and so on. It leads to a painful death. What do you think, what is his – the leprosy man – the greatest desire? What does he want the most? Surely, as he says: “to be clean”.

Are we so clear at our requests to God? What is it that we want and desire the most? Are we certain about it? That is one point of the story. Another one is that the man did not demand from Jesus to do so. He has asked: “If you wish”. There is a lot of humility in this man. The demanding it is like an ordering – and not only to God, to ourselves too – a person to do so. It is like saying to someone: “You have to do it because I want that”.

God does not take demands, He listens to humble requests. Being humble it also means to be ready to receive what God has already prepared for us, because He listens and answers every of our requests.

There still is another element in speeding the answer of God to reach us. This is our believe. Do we believe in what we are asking for? Do we believe that God does answer our prayerful requests? Do we thank God for the answer?

Give thanks to God for everything that you are asking for, even then or especially, when you have not got it yet. Assure yourselves of the great goodness and love of God. Do it daily, and truly you will see the manifestation of His love for you.
