5th Sunday OT – 2018

 5th Sunday OT – 2018

“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed”

Many of us would say that the work of healing the people is very needed and important. This is what the people need! There are many important and needed things we do throughout the day. Are they all equally important and needed?

Jesus does great things to people that gather about him: He preaches the Word of God to them, teaches those people through parables, heals their sick, casts out demons making the people free of evil. He is able to do all these things not only that He is the Son of God but because He remains constantly united with God, the Father.

Early, “very early before dawn” He goes to a lonely, “deserted place” to pray, to talk to His Father and listen to Him, so that the Father may strengthen Him to do all these things. Jesus is the God’s Son, does He need to pray? Jesus-God doesn’t, but Jesus-Man does. The Son of Man – Jesus – shows us the way to also do great things for ourselves and for others: through the prayer God empowers us to do good works.

So, let us set aside our special time for communication with God, to ask and to plead for ourselves and others, and to listen to what God has to say to us about all these things that we are asking for.
