 4th Sunday of Advent – 2017

“How can this be since I have no relations with a man”

Dreams about a great future are parts of our life and are needed for our growth and development. Many of us give them up for many different reasons. Often, it happens, that we do not see how they may come true. “It is impossible because of this or that”. We are really good at finding excuses for not making any effort to realize our dreams.

The Gospel of today presents us with a really beautiful future for Mary. She is going to be the one through whom will come the future king of the chosen nation, and his kingdom will have “no end”. Many prophets of the Old Testament were talking about it. People of Israel knew this prophesy and were expecting his coming. I think, Mary wasn’t the only one knowing this and maybe even dreaming about it.

Hearing the angels’ greeting: “Hail, full of grace”, she could feel a bit puzzled. “Is it my dreaming or is it God speaking to me”? “How can this be since I have no relations with a man”? How can this be since in human terms it is impossible?

We all have certain doubts; we do not see the way and possibilities so that those great dreams may be realized. But it is not so with God. God know how and his has ways to make our dreams come true. Only not by our terms but by his.

He does not know such a word as “impossible”. For Him everything is possible. The most important is so that we do not stop Him to do it by our doubts.

Let us allow God to act in our lives and through us and we will see a great things done by Him.
