25th Sunday OT – 2017

“Are you envious because I am generous?”

Forgive me for saying this but ‘being envious’ is the most stupid sin, if any sin is better, that we may commit. Why? Because nobody gains anything from it.

The story of today’s Gospel reflects our, nearly, daily situations. Not having any work, we get hired by somebody to do a certain job for him or her. We make an agreement concerning the pay. Everything is alright until the moment of meeting someone else of the workers being, as we, hired by the same work-giver. When we begin compare ourselves with others and discover that they get more money for the same work, or working hours, we become envious. Why? We do not know the whole truth, we do not know the full agreement between them.

Being envious I block the happiness and blessing that should come to me. The happiness doesn’t come from outside; it is not given to me by someone or something. It lies within me, hidden deep in my heart. It is an effect of giving something to or being for someone. It flows from me.

When I am envious about something or someone I do not allow this happiness that is within me to surface. Let the others be or have what they want, the way they agreed upon. Clarify within your heart what you really want and believe that it will be yours.

Let us see, value and be grateful for what we are and have already, and even for what we dream about. Only through our gratitude to God, to the universe, to others we allow the inner happiness to come to the light, and we open ourselves to the new possibilities that will help us to reach and get what we are longing for, for what we desire, what we want.

Let’s practice a daily prayer of gratitude and being thankful for what we already have, and the happiness will be ours.
