21st Sunday OT – 2017

“… upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it”

Yes, anything that we are going to build needs to have a solid foundation. Otherwise, any – even light – wind is going to destroy our construction. In the spiritual matter, it is our faith. How strong is our faith? Do we have any faith? Or, it is just our habitual rituals that we perform being taken as our faith?

Jesus gives His authority and power to Peter, who – by the way denied the Lord – to the question about Jesus’ identity answered correctly: “You are the Christ, the son of the living God”. Is our faith based on this statement? What truly is our answer? Our words spoken to others, even to ourselves, confirm our faith hidden deeply in our hearts. And our deeds and actions express even more in what we really believe.

Faith is the gift of God, a gift that is given by Him to everyone. Yet, not everyone takes care to develop it. It is the responsibility of each one of us to ensure that this gift will not be wasted, that it will grow and get stronger.

How can we make it stronger? By answering Christ’s question correctly.

“You are the Christ” – it means – You, o Lord Jesus, – are the Chosen One of God, the anointed One by Him with the Holy Spirit so to manifest the great power of God.

“You are … the Son of the living God” – means – the beloved child of the Father, His Only One, the Heir of the heavenly kingdom.

He – Jesus – through his earthly life is showing to us how loving and merciful is His heavenly Father, who awaits us in His kingdom and prepared a place for each one of us, so that we may reign with Him for ever.

Do you believe so?
