Transfiguration – 2017

“This is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him”

The feast of Transfiguration of Jesus shows to us our future glory. The setting of this great miracle is very meaningful.

The climbing the “high mountain” takes us up from the valley or even pitfalls of our misery, of daily matters and problems, where through Jesus we are able to meet God, the Father. It is well known that if we want to solve our problems we need to rise above them, we need to find another – higher – platform.

When we get lost i.e. in the forest or in a vast, open space, we need to climb up so that we may see what’s on the horizon. So it is with our problems.

Another point concerns our listening.

God, the Father – a voice from the cloud – says: “This is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased; LISTEN TO HIM”. To whom/what do I listen? Do I listen? Am I able to listen? Take a moment to examine your listening. Do you hear the beat of your heart? When you close your eyes, are you able to recognize the different sounds around you? And finally, when you pray, do you listen to the voice of God?

God wants to tell us so much, maybe even this: “you are my beloved son/daughter with whom I am well pleased”, but we are unable to hear and accept this and live accordingly.

Let us listen to Jesus and follow in His footsteps so that our heavenly Father may be “well pleased” with each one of us.
